Sophie H/w (not finished)

When sophie is 2 years old what firstly sticks out to me is the wrong pronounused very frequently through out. She uses 'me' instead of 'I'. This is an example of overgeneralisation. However towards the end Sophie does the correct pronoun 'I'. However from my understanding what sophie was suppose to say was ' I have not got a hoover'. She has not quite grasped English grammer, and puts 'no' infront of the statement to make it negative. Another example of over generalisation is 'Our play' on  the floor', here Sophie has grasped 'our' is plural 'We' but does not realise its only plural for 'mine' ans uses it for we instead.

The nature vs nurture argument

Chomsky: L.A.D language acquisition device- suggests we have a critical acquisition period (skimmer) in which we need to be stimulated before a certain growing stage. Otherwise the child will be unable to grasp language properly. This is the part of the nature argument as it suggests the ability is innate.

KE family had a speech and language problem which was genetic. Researchers have found a key gene ' Fox-p-21' which was missing. This supports Chomsky with his view we are born with language acquisition.

Debroy Home speech project
set up cameras around the house and watched/listened to the stages of his childs language acquisition
Used determiners instead of nouns
phonological awareness outstrips their semantic awareness

An article which talks about adjectives used to only describe females but not males. For example feisty, where as a male would not be called this. It also covers words like 'feisty', being reserved for black females, or women of colour. This can be damaging as it reinforces stereotypes.

The advert contains personal pronouns like ‘your’ and  ‘you’ which creates a relationship with the reader and make the receiver relate all that is being said, to themselves. This is further used with the image used, with Beyonce giving a direct mode of address, giving a more personal feel.  The image which has a pink background is what is being advertised, and what is seen to be ‘the dream’.  The beginning of the text begins with ‘Imagine’ in pink font, linking it to the image before you actually read what it is telling you to imagine.

Technology piece

The bbc article explains what the hashtag is '  the # key was little more than something found on telephones'  which implies this articles audience is an older audience, or people who are not familiar with how to use twitter. Then it goes on to say 'Now hashtags are now the definitive way to group tweets on the same subject' which almost engages the reader, like they are missing out if they are not a user of twitter.

'Twitter has cemented itself as a digital soapbox' ;' Digital soapbox' is an effective metaphor to explaining what twitter is, connoting things like dfjg
